Skin lesions and moles

The sun causes considerable damage to the skin and is a significant contributing factor to all types of skin malignancies. It is important that lesions secondary to sun damage are seen early as they can progress to skin cancer. In particular moles that change in character, enlarge or bleed should be assessed. These can be removed leaving a very small and neat scar. All lesions removed are sent to a Consultant Pathologist for histological analysis to confirm the diagnosis.

Other lesions that can be removed relatively easily under local anaesthetic include cysts, fatty lumps and unsightly skin tags.
